The UN General Assembly once again clearly confirmed the territorial integrity of Georgia

July 3 UN General Assembly adopted a draft resolution submitted by Georgia, which supports the return of internally displaced persons and refugees, including in Abkhazia and in Tskhinvali regions, throughout the country. The resolution was voted with 60 countries and against 15. As stated by the Georgian side, initiate the annual resolution gives great attention to this issue.

The fact positively is estimated by the deputy and member of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Jemal Gamakharia. He says that despite the appeal of Russia did not support it the General Assembly voted a resolution in favor of Georgia and for this once again clearly and unequivocally supported the territorial integrity of Georgia, the unconditional right all internally displaced persons and refugees to return to their homes, the inadmissibility of forcible change of the demographic situation in the region, emphasized the necessity of protection the property rights of refugees. The resolution also calls to refrain from unlawful acquisition of property of refugees.

"It should be noted that the number of countries supporting such resolutions is increasing yearly and for this time has already increased to 60 (vs. 15) indicating, of course, the success of Georgian diplomacy" - said J. Gamakharia.

"Unfortunately the UN resolutions are not always accomplished. We do not know what will be the fate of this resolution, but its adoption is still a further step towards de-occupation of Abkhazia and Tskhinval regions. Unfortunately I cannot note that some of our neighbors and friendly countries did not supported or abstained on the adoption of the resolution which has purely humanitarian and not political character. This means that the relevant government agencies, including the legitimate authorities of the Autonomous republic of Abkhazia has an enormous amount of hard work for radically change the situation in our favor" - averred Jemal Gamakharia.
