They defended the Motherland: An Evening in the international cultural center "Muse", dedicated to the heroic battle in Sukhumi 15th-18th of March 1993

 

Evening dedicated to heroic battles on the outskirts of Sukhumi 15th-18th of March 1993, was organized by the Supreme Council and the Government of Abkhazia was held on 16 March in the International Cultural Center "The Muse".

 

On the evening was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, the families in these battles, and the public. Deputy of the Supreme Council Tamaz Khubua again reminded participants about how the Georgian defenders defeated enemy force approaches in Sukhumi won a heroic victory. Metropolitan Samtavisky Gori and Andria (Gvazava) blessed in the audience and read a joint memorial prayer for the souls of the dead.

 

According to the chairman of the Supreme Council Elguja Gvazava: "This day is a manifestation of the heroic and the fighting spirit of our glorious ancestors. In the difficult moments of history, its unity and firmness, they surprised the enemies and achieve victory. We salute and honor the memory of soldiers who died in 1992-1993 in the battles for the territorial integrity of the motherland, the missing and tortured in the torture of civilians. In spite of all the suffering and pain caused to each other in this war, we must be able to forgive and reconcile, the largest share of this reconciliation is the shed blood of both the Georgian and the Abkhazian side.

 

First Deputy Joint General Staff of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, General Vakhtang Kapanadze said that in 1993, as in 2008, the Georgian soldiers sacrificed themselves for the sake of the motherland. Every Georgian admires their unprecedented heroic feat.On the evening with memories of the March battles and their significance were Sukhumi State University Professor Zurab Papaskiri, People's Artist of Georgia Dmitry Dzhaiani veteran Abkhaz war, Professor David Jalagonia. Evening decorated military brass band and martial arts school "Saint George" led by Kakha Kakabadze and female ensemble Sukhumi State University, led Vezden Okudzhava.
