26th of March at the Academy of Sciences of Georgia hosted a scientific conference dedicated to the 35th anniversary of enthronement and 80th Anniversary of the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan Pitsunda and Tskhum-Abkhazia Ilia II. Conference organized by the National Committee of Historians of Georgia, the Georgian historical society and the Academy of Sciences of Abkhazia, was made by Academician Roin Metreveli.
Metropolitan Chiatura and Sachkhere Daniel (Datuashvili) reporting on the activities and merits of Patriarch of Georgia noted that "protection of the Abkhaz diocese requires tremendous effort, as it is not only a problem of the Abkhaz diocese, but also of the whole of Georgia. In the current difficult political situation Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II, can be said to be the second Elijah, like Elijah righteously, becoming Georgia both a support and guide. Three main postulate of the Georgian national ideology - "Motherland, Language, Faith", Patriarch of Georgia, presented as though in an updated form - "God, Homeland, man," pointing out that these values are above the rest". Metropolitan Chiatura and Sachkhere Daniel Patriarch wished long life, good health and strength of spirit for the good of the motherland and the people.
Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Elguja Gvazava noted that "the life and work of Ilia II-is the divine grace of Georgia. The recognition of the autocephaly of the Georgian Church, the revival of the Georgian church chants, people return to God, and more - is a clear indication of his tireless work and Herculean effort. In one of his sermons, the patriarch said that Abkhazia is not lost, there is only temporarily preostanovlena Georgian jurisdiction. These words are a beacon of hope for people driven out of Abkhazia. We believe that the prayers of the Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II-nd Abkhazia reborn on earth peace, and happiness for the benefit of Georgia, for the benefit of all its inhabitants".
